Invasion

‘Invasion’ is an interpretation of a woman being violated, the nail which protrudes the groin area represent the muscles fighting against the undesired penetration of her body. The work is the first in a series of 4 animated sculptures entitled SV: Sex by Violence. The works are a graphic depiction of the act of a woman being raped, each form representing a different stage in the process from the initial act to the recovery. All forms replicate a woman’s lower body and legs, each is made from polythene and shredded paper combined with found object.

Invasion depicts a woman falling victim to a frenzied sex attacker. The nails protruding the groin area reflect her muscles trying to reject the penetration, a direct fight against the intrusion. The rust and the ageing of the hardware demonstrate the brutality of the violation.

The pubic hair is indicated by a combination of wire wool and the domestic scourer wire surface cleaner. Degraded and rusted they portray further rejection of the penetration. The harshness of the materials indicates the brutality of the onslaught, the penis been fighting its way through the harsh textures which are trying to defeat it’s route.

Papers with darkened tones around black stuff the bulk of the body, they are rough in texture, granite-like and inhuman. They show the ligaments of the female in a darkened, unnatural state. The blood which runs through the form can no longer function normally.

The feet are encapsulated by stones, showing they are unable to move, weighed into place as the sex act occurs, unable to escape or take the body away from the offender. The use of natural beach waste implies some of sea-side or perhaps quarry location. The sand included is coarse and looks to stain the interior of the body.

Slate surrounds the groin area show how it is weighed down, the female cannot struggle free or flee the predator. They are dark in tone, as they rub together grit arises, darkening the form further as it is penetrated.

The groin projects upwards as the limbs lie flat and void of movement. Invasion is a true reflection of the horrors of Rape, to be exhibited with the SV: Sex by Violence series:

She-Lennon

She-Lennon

She sits chin neatly poised into a lightly clasped hand. Mouth slightly ajar, almost ready to take on a soft melody. Eyes looking through small rounded glasses into a place far away into her thoughts. Skin soft and smooth to touch, hair short and curly, wild but angelic in its freestyle.

As her mind moves from the thought she was engaged in she decides to smoke a cigarette. After rolling her own, she lights up and inhales. Head lost in thought again, this time she looks slightly down with her gaze. In juxtaposition, her cigarette is held high as it progresses to burn its way down to the self-formed filter. She plots her next move through the lenses of the lenses of the tiny rimmed milk-bottle spectacles.

In this she stands up, tall but slender in build. Her boots are brown swede brandishing an assortment of decorative buckles. Jeans are flared, topped off with a tiny t-shirt encasing her firm but small breasts with the trendy no-bra look of the era. The look finished off with a tight fitted, low set matching denim jacket making her appear almost taller than her physical height. In her action, she holds up her right hand, clasps in her two smaller fingers and her thumb, then spreads open the larger fingers to give us the Peace Symbol.

SV, Sex by Violence, the truth behind the Trauma will be taking over the new zuhause

gallery space in Gostins for the first week in July. Explicit content to be expected.

The exhibition comprises of a series of 4 animated sculptures entitled SV, Sex by Violence. The works are a graphic depiction of the act of a woman being raped, each form representing a different stage in the process from the initial act to the recovery. All forms replicate a woman’s lower body and legs, each is made from polythene and shredded paper combined with found object. ‘Invasion’ is an interpretation of a woman being violated, The nail which protrudes the groin area represent the woman muscles fighting against the undesired penetration of her body. ‘Coming Too’ highlights the process of the woman recovering from clinical shock as a result of the sex attack. The sea foliage worked through the form illustrates the concept of water flowing through her body. The zig-zag which waves through the body as the brain re-engages with the bodily muscles. ‘Fatigue’ introduces the physical consequences of violation: extreme tiredness and the bodies need to sleep as part of the recovery process. ‘Life from the Waist Down’ illustrates the beginning of the recovery process, the body and the mind are becoming strong again, the form is upright.

Alison Little is the artist behind the forms, she has been North -West based for the last decade and worked on commissions from the Superlambanana trail to the Penguins. Her conceptual work began to move forward several years ago being exhibited at the Williamson Gallery, Unit 51 in the Baltic Triangle in addition to a commission completed for the equality council in Derby. This is the second show she has Curated, the first ‘Shatter the Silence, Violence against Women’, a group show being held at the Quaker Meeting House in School Lane, Liverpool City City. Alison helps Organise the Reclaim the Night March held in spring in Liverpool annually. The intentions behind the exhibition as a means of activism against sexual violence and to play its role in her campaign work.

An exhibition which will shock, inform and challenge Rape Culture which is embedded within our society.

The Silky Scrum

scrum image

The Silky scrum is a fictional works, none of the characters or events are based on specific individuals or occurrences.

Barry was up early, it is a Sunday morning: his favourite day of the week: Rugby practice. He had his kit laid out by his girlfriend soon to become his wife. He went to the pub for a few beers last night to see the lads, watched the end of the footy, although he isn’t really interested in the wimps game it’s good to catch up with the boys. He brought a few porn DVD’s off one of the Chinese sellers, he also wasn’t that interested in those just went along with what was expected. Stashed them at the back of the wardrobe where his girlfriend wouldn’t find them with a few another bits he had forgotten about.

Now to getting dressed ready for training for his much anticipated morning that his whole week revolved around. To the very best bit, his silky underpants. This pair is a dark navy blue tight fitting shorts style. He draws them onto himself, feeling them slide up his hairy legs. Flush now around his groin, one of his daily pleasures. He can never remember where the love of silky underwear came from but it was one of his true indulgences.

He then throws on the rest of his kit, lashing his feet into his trainers. Leaving saying goodbye to his girlfriend or locating his keys, she’ll be in later making dinner when he gets back anyway. Grabbing his coat he knocks another one down, he leaves it as she’ll get it later on.

At training he is an outer man in the scrum, as he leans inwards, shoulder to shoulder, he smiles to himself as he can feel the silk of the pants strain across his groin.

Liverpool’ Latest Lambanana

Ver 0.28N

Superlambanana Lips has taken up residence in the far-reaching lands of Maghull. Nestling amongst prickly plant life she stands proudly at the entrance to the Lip Doctor, Liverpool Road South, gated at night to ensure that she doesn’t escape. To match the lip shaping and plumping service offered by Doctor Fab she has been adorned with a selection of the finest lips in Liverpool. Each ear taking on pouting red lips stretching out to both sides, dark toned and diamond studded smack onto the middle body. The frontal limbs present romantic soft tones smiles while the back has been kissed by the finest plump pink pair. The tip of the yellow tail has been finished off with a flirty orange shade set. A delightful creature, fun but equally glamorous all at the same time.

The original Superlambanana was created by artist Taro Chiezo and first made an appearance on the streets of Liverpool almost two decades ago. The mammal was intended to be a comment about genetic engineering through the cross between a lamb and a banana. Although the sculpture was originally controversial it became a Souse favourite when the Capital of Cultures Go Superlambana trail took to the Streets of Liverpool in 2008. 125 individually painted replicas marched across Merseyside and the surrounding areas: Runcorn to Rainford, Southport to St Helens one even striding as far as Moel Famau in North Wales.

Superlambana Lips stood proudly in the original trail, however, then her coat was a very different colour: Black. Originally she was coated in blackboard paint by artist Jacqueline Boylan to allow visitors to the trail to write comments in chalk over the fine beast, entitled Culture Chalk she stood in Pyramid Shopping Centre, Wirral. From the auction, she was brought by a North Liverpool hairdressers before finding a new home at the Lip Doctors in Maghull.

Standing coated pink of a few years the new owners approached local artist Alison Little to transform the creature into a much-loved art piece. Alison originally worked on 3 Lambanana’ for the trail, followed by a commission of Superlambanana Peacock located in Seel Street. A further commission for Sure Start, the fifth and most recent being Super Lambanana Lips. Other hand painted commissions include Go Penguin in Liverpool, the Horse Parade in Cheltenham in addition to mural work in Kirby and Garston.

Adding the Lips to this glamour-lamb has been one of the liveliest commissions she has worked on.

Let her stand proud, tall and kissed by so many lips for the foreseeable future…..

We have Superlamanana Lips!
